DENVER – February 26, 2007 – For many patients, doctor’s visits are complicated by additional trips to the lab and delays in learning the results of exams as they travel across town to different medical offices. The grand opening of The Urology Center of Colorado (TUCC), one of the most comprehensive urology centers in the nation, signifies a change from inefficient medical care to quality, patient-centered care.
Located just north of Invesco Field in Denver, TUCC features a state-of-the-art urology clinic, including radiology, laboratory and pathology services, a comprehensive cancer treatment center, clinical research department and ambulatory surgical center, the Urology Surgery Center of Colorado. Procedures such as biopsies, transurethral microwave therapy (TUMT), ultrasounds and urodynamics are performed at TUCC. The three-story, 60,000 square-foot facility is designed to treat all urologic conditions.
Formed as a partnership with HCA-HealthONE, the ambulatory surgical center performs all outpatient urologic procedures including, shockwave and laser lithotripsy, bladder tumor resection, ureteroscopy, prostatectomy and vasectomy.
“TUCC was originally conceived in January 2004 to provide patients with complete urologic care at one location,” said Richard Augspurger, M.D., TUCC medical director. “As physicians, we see delays in patient care far too often and the TUCC model can eliminate them, resulting in better and more efficient medical care.”
TUCC was formed following the merger of two Denver urology practices: Colorado Urology Associates and Western Urologic Associates. Thirteen physicians from both groups lead the TUCC medical team along with one double board certified urologist/radiation oncologist. TUCC is one of only a few urology practices in the country to have a double board certified physician on staff within these specialties. All TUCC physicians are board certified by the American Board of Urology.
“The overall design of TUCC – layout of the center, services offered and caliber of our staff – was created with our patients in mind,” said Stephen Ruyle, M.D., TUCC president. “Our goal is to eliminate wasteful delays and having one location to provide all urologic services allows TUCC physicians to optimize their time taking care of patients.”
TUCC was established as a joint venture development between Colorado Urology Associates, Western Urologic Associates and Development Solutions Group, LLC. Boulder Associates served as the architects of the project, which was constructed by Gerald H. Phipps, Inc. The $15 million project broke ground in August 2005.
