Dale Fitzsimmons has been a patient of Dr. Montoya’s at TUCC for a few years. He decided after a few years of watchful waiting that it was time to remove his prostate. Dr. Montoya was able to operate using the da Vinci robot at Swedish hospital and Dale says he didn’t even feel like he had surgery.

2018 Survivorship Picnic

Every year for the past nine years the physicians and staff of The Urology Center of Colorado (TUCC) come together and celebrate survivorship with our patients, family and friends…and some classic car enthusiasts, from around the Denver region. At the event patients who have survived all types of cancer, thanks to the incredible team at TUCC, come together for a day of gratitude.  This event brings together current and former patients who gather together for a day of classic cars, a picnic and to exchange stories about the treatment they received at TUCC.

Ed McCaffrey talks About Trusting Prostate Health to TUCC

TUCC is the region’s leader in comprehensive prostate cancer care. In September 2011, we launched a prostate cancer public awareness campaign with CBS4 and former Denver Broncos star Ed McCaffrey. The focus was on the state-of-the-art care delivered at TUCC and the importance of men taking charge of their health.

Sandra Frank – Bladder Cancer Survivor

I am a cancer survivor. Those words can elicit many different responses from cancer patients. In our new online Storytellers video series, Sandra, a bladder cancer patient, explains what survivorship means to her, her treatment process, what she wishes someone would have told her about the treatment of bladder cancer and her experience as a patient at TUCC.

Gail Uhlir – Kidney Cancer Survivor

I am a cancer survivor. Those words can elicit many different responses from cancer patients. In our new online Storytellers video series, Gail, a kidney cancer patient, explains what survivorship means to her, her treatment process, what she wishes someone would have told her about the treatment of kidney cancer and her experience as a patient at TUCC.

Jim’s Story

In this edition of TUCC Patient Storytellers, TUCC radiation oncology patient and prostate cancer survivor Jim Hasemeyer describes his experience at TUCC and the impact it had on his treatment. He starts his story when he learned about his diagnosis of  prostate cancer, he talks about his decision to have radiation oncology, and talks about the people at TUCC who helped him through this experience and had him leave with tears of joy on the last day of treatment at TUCC.

Bob’s Story

TUCC believes that the well-being of our patients lies in the complete understanding of their diagnosis. The Urology Center of Colorado hosts monthly support groups for bladder cancer, interstitial cystitis, kidney cancer and prostate cancer patients. In this story from 7News, prostate cancer patient Bob Quinlan describes how the TUCC prostate cancer support group helped him through his prostate cancer diagnosis. A radical prostatectomy with the DaVinci successfully treated Bob’s cancer in a minimally invasive way, but TUCC’s pledge to provide comprehensive treatment for patients meant Bob could address the emotional toll of having cancer, as well. Science, technology and support are the keys to a successful recovery from prostate cancer.

Richard’s Story

Richard Forman, a hockey player and prostate cancer survivor, talks about his diagnosis and his treatment for prostate cancer at TUCC. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2009 and he shares his experience as a radiation therapy patient at The Urology Center of Colorado and his road to survivorship. He talks about his realization that Prostate Cancer, while sounding scary, was not a death sentence. Richard highlights that he was able to go through the treatment on his lunch hour and did not even need to miss work.

Kelsey’s Story

Kelsey Canady was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2009. Kelsey tells his story, he describes his road to survivorship and the assistance he received from the physicians and staff at TUCC. Dr Mark Jones talks about the increased risk for prostate cancer in the African American population and reiterates the importance of seeking medical care early. Kelsey had a robotic radical prostatectomy with the DaVinci, a procedure that TUCC has performed more of than anyone else in the Rocky Mountain region. Kelsey was back to walking on the treadmill a mere 40 hours after his surgery.
