On Sunday, June 6th, more than 450 survivors of urologic conditions - prostate cancer, bladder cancer, kidney cancer, testicular cancer, spinal cord injury and interstitial cystitis patients - and their loved ones joined The Urology Center of Colorado (TUCC) Foundation for the second annual Survivorship Picnic. These diseases impact the lives of thousands of Coloradans. In fact, prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the state today. The perseverance and hope expressed by cancer survivors is recognized nationwide on the first Sunday of every June.

According to the American Cancer Society, more than 70,000 Americans will be diagnosed with bladder cancer this year. Kidney cancer will be detected in more than 57,000 Americans. For decades, these patients have been treated with open, invasive surgeries. No longer. Surgeons at The Urology Center of Colorado (TUCC) have now performed the first da Vinci robotic cystectomy (bladder removal) in Denver and are among the first surgeons to perform partial robotic nephrectomies (removal of cancerous renal mass) in the metro area.

On Wednesday, April 21st, TUCC physician Mark Jones, M.D., was featured in a 9News segment regarding the importance of prostate and testicular cancer screenings. Early detection of both forms of cancer can greatly improve a patient's diagnosis and long-term treatment options.
Former NFL Players Participate in Prostate Cancer Screening
On Saturday, April 17, dozens of NFL alumni participated in a prostate cancer screening at Invesco Field. Sponsored by the NFL Player Care Foundation, the American Urological Association Foundation and TUCC Foundation, participants receive free PSA and DRE exams during the screening. Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Colorado today, but it's very treatable when detected at an early stage.

My recent visit to The Urology Center of Colorado (TUCC) provided an informative education on the various urological issues that impact so many men and women. I also learned about the advantages for patients that this fully inclusive urology center offers for complete urological care.
